MY REVIEW: I was provided with a copy of the book by the author in exchange for an honest review.

The story is certainly different from anything that I have read so far. It deals with the pertinent question of rape.

Palak is a beautiful young woman studying in college. She is leading a fun life of drinking, partying and even drugs with her group of friends. While stoic Rohin in her group of friends appears to be attracted to her, Palak herself is interested in another friend Jahan.

Palak’s life takes a turn for the worse when she attends a rave party with her friends. She wakes up the next morning with no recollection of the previous night. But the battered condition of her body tells her that something serious and unpleasant has happened to her. She faces further humiliation when there is a sex video of her and Rohin doing the rounds.

Rohin takes Palak to his home town in order to get away from the gossip and speculation. Palak goes through a tremendous ordeal as she struggles to come to terms with what has happened to her.

Will Rohin be able to find out what actually transpired on the night of the party? Will Palak be able to heal? The author has beautifully depicted Palak’s thoughts, feelings and emotions in the story.

I recommend this book to readers as value for money.

The main character in the story is Sonal Kapoor, who lives in London with her aged mother and runs a florist shop. Sonal moved from India to England several years ago, in order to escape from a traumatic incident. This incident has left her very disturbed and she is unable to trust a man.

A chance encounter with a handsome stranger in the grocery store leads her to dropping her belongings. The handsome stranger cares to track her down and return them to her. He is Dr. Ryan Percy, a cardiovascular surgeon.

Ryan is drawn to her and wants to get to know her better. Sonal tries to push him away but Ryan proves to be too charming to resist. He courts her in an extremely romantic fairy tale fashion until she too reciprocates his feelings.

It turns out that Ryan is also recovering from past wounds. Sonal opens up to him about her past as well. However, just when everything seems to be going on well, a ghost from Sonal’s past returns to haunt her.

All the characters in the story are portrayed very well and the reader will keep turning the pages to find out if Sonal and Ryan’s love story has a happy ending.

BOOK REVIEW: SECRET DIARY OF AN INCURABLE ROMANTIC

Book: Secret Diary of an Incurable Romantic

Author: Chitrangada Mukherjee

Genre: Fiction

Published by: Fingerprint Publishing

Number of pages: 278 pages

My Rating: 5/5

MY REVIEW: I was provided with a copy of this book by the author Chitrangada Mukherjee in exchange for an honest review.

The story is about Madhu (Madhubala), whose husband has died recently after only a year of marriage. Madhu now lives with her elderly mother-in-law and teaches Social Science in a school.

The story is witty, hilarious, extremely interesting and poignant at the same time. Though Madhu misses her husband intensely, she is still portrayed as a woman with normal needs and desires. She takes solace in alcohol and a fling with a colleague.

Madhu’s workplace, i.e. the school, is extremely well depicted with interesting descriptions of the staffroom, her bitchy colleagues, the pushy parents and the demanding principal.

I also loved the characters of Madhu’s parents and her mother-in-law Lalitaji as well as her best friend Pintu.

On the whole, the story is extremely modern and accurately shows the dynamics of relationships today. Will there be a happy ending for Madhu? The reader needs to read the story to find out.

I highly recommend ‘Secret Diary of an Incurable Romantic’ to readers as a real page-turner of a novel!

BOOK REVIEW: WHERE THREE EMPIRES MEET

Book: Where Three Empires MeettempImageForSave

Author: E.F. Knight

Genre: Non-fiction, Travelogue

Published by: Rupa Publications

Number of pages: 368 pages

My Rating: 3.5/5

MY REVIEW: The publishers Rupa Publications provided me with a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

This book made a refreshing change from my recent reads as it is a travelogue. It is about a journey made by the author in the year 1891 to the remote (at that time) regions of Ladakh, Tibet and beyond.

The first thing that needs to be kept in mind while reading this book is that it is about a journey that took place about 127 years ago. At that time, life was much slower and people travelled at a leisurely pace. It does take some mental adjustment to keep reading about the “Empire” and the “natives”!

The author has vividly described the regions visited as well as given fascinating descriptions about the local populations as well as certain peculiar local customs.

I recommend this book to readers who are fond of reading travelogues and history. The book also has photographs taken by the author. The only thing that might put readers off is the length of the book, i.e. 368 pages.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: E.F. Knight was a barrister who gave up his profession to be a journalist.

LOOP BANDS FOR RESISTANCE

Anyone who works out regularly must have observed that sometimes monotony sets in and it becomes necessary to incorporate some variety in the regular workout routine.

One such way of getting an effective workout is by using loop bands.

In the video, I have tried to give viewers a sample of just some of the exercises that can be done using loop bands.

Loop bands are inexpensive and can be purchased online as well. They come in a variety of resistances like light, medium and heavy. They are compact and light and can be carried anywhere, including when one is travelling.

Loop bands can be used by beginners or people who are advanced in their workouts. They can be used for glut activation as well as for adding resistance in a bodyweight workout.

For those who did not comprehend the exercises shown in the video, I have photos of some of the exercises shown in it.

I certainly enjoy using loop bands in my workout routines as I find them highly effective as well as fun to use.

I will endeavour to keep providing everyone with fitness tools and tips that do not involve complex gadgets and can be used on a regular basis.
